When you visit the home-place of the
American Whiskey Trail sm , you begin an educational journey into the cultural heritage and history of spirits in America. From the colonial era, where Whiskey had an important economic and social function in the fabric of the community, to the Whiskey Rebellion, through Prohibition and into modern times spirits have played a sometimes controversial but always fascinating role in our nation’s history.
On the American Whiskey Trail, beginning with George Washington's distillery at Mount Vernon in Virginia, you will find many of America's most famous operating distilleries as well as important historic sites connected to the history of distilling and spirits in our country. Each site has a unique story to tell and all are open to the public for visits throughout the year (please check for the most updated hours of operation).
