The 65% Campaign is based on recent survey data stating that 65% of youth obtain the alcohol they drink from their family and friends. This program involves distributing materials that encourage parents to play a more active role in keeping alcohol out of the hands of teens. In addition to distributing the 65% Campaign materials in all 154 retail locations, in 2005 ABC Fine Wine & Spirits worked with TCC, the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, and the Florida Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement to host numerous in-store events to promote this program and information. ABC says consumers are extremely grateful to receive the information offered through the 65% Campaign. When asked about retailer responsibility, a spokeswoman for ABC said “The more awareness, the better for us all. Being proactive rather than reactive is an ideal approach.” It is clear that ABC follows its own advice. In addition to the great effort ABC made in promoting the 65% Campaign it is also involved in the Parent Alert Program, Cops in Shops, and operates a rigorous internal shopping program to ensure ABC personnel follow the law, as well as their own stringent company policy.
